Alexandria Surrett 537 N. 54th St. Milwaukee, WI 53208 AlexandriaSurrett@gmail.com 414-394-7924 To Whom It May Concern: The
ideal, immediate future for me consists of a position with a growing company
that will utilize my prior experience and education in order to benefit the
company as well as to strengthen my own capabilities. Before
graduating from college, majority of my work experience came from seven years
of restaurant management and three years of research assistance for
professors from the university. Management enhanced my communication skills
in English and Spanish as well as improved my time management, business cost
awareness, and employee coordination. During this time I was also given the
opportunity by three different professors at my university to work on large
scale, hands on projects. Through these positions I have gained physical and
clerical knowledge for a foundry setting, while researching self-healing
metals for the US Army, a concrete lab focusing on Wisconsin Highway Research
Program for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WIS-DOT) and a
materials testing and imaging lab working closely with Marquette University
Dentistry School. These experiences have given me the ability to work with
other engineers on large scale projects, multi-tasking skills, and enhancing
my ability to develop new ideas for any given project. I work very diligently
and take a lot of pride in my work and this has resulted in many of my peers
and the employees I managed looking to me as a mentor. Working
full time, often with multiple positions as well as attending college full
time throughout its entirety is really an achievement that only those who
have lived it can truly appreciate. With a minor in Architecture, and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, my course emphasis on structures,
soil and fluid mechanics, foundations, surveying, finite elements,
thermodynamics, and many different computer software programs, I feel I have
been extremely prepared for the engineering industry. I have been challenged
in the past to apply the knowledge taught in courses and texts in the working
field and have found that the transition has been very easy for me. I have no
doubt in my mind that not only will I be able to apply this knowledge; I can
also build and transform my experiences to my advantage and to the advantage
of your company. My
software knowledge goes back to 2004 where I took and later assisted teaching
an architecture course at my high school where students used AutoCad Lite to
make tool drawings and design commercial spaces. My first two years of
college were focused on my Architecture Minor. In our studio courses we
designed different spaces based on project requirements, drew hand drawings
and used both SketchUP and Bentley Microstation to present our designs.
When I began to focus more on Engineering for my Major, I took extensive
AutoCad and Revit classes. While working for Dakota Intertek, I was in
charge of obtaining all bidding documents, scaling and interpreting project
drawings and determining the cost of a project using AutoCad and other computer
software for our earthwork and demolition projects. During my time with
Metropolitan Crane I have been using AutoCad 2014 to create drawings for our
clients as well as shop drawings of the overhead bridge cranes and structures
I have designed. Although there are many different software programs
and versions of these programs, I feel that I am very well versed in many of
them and those that I don’t know as well, learning them comes very easily to
me. I work well in both 2D and 3D and truly enjoy designing digitally. I am
currently looking for a full time position with an engineering company and
look forward to progressing in my career and find my niche. With my past
experiences, job history, education, and achievements on my resume, I hope to
be considered for a full time or salaried position with your company. Please
feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail any time! Thank you for your time
I look forward to an interview with you! Alexandria Surrett Alexandriasurrett@gmail.com 414-394-7924 Alexandria
